About UBC
Owner Paul Roulund grew up in southern California, graduationd from El Toro High School. In the late 70′s he attended college in Dallas to become a lawyer, but soon decided that working with his hands and designing was more his syle. he attended the local carpenters union 1815, served his apprenticeship training and worked as a journeyman. Paul worked as a general superintendent for Santa Fe Pacific supervising tenant improvements. He successfully passed the Contractors License exam in 1981, and still holds the original General contractors license #412710, HIC License #Sc44 (Solar), and has been in business for himself ever since.
He later started and ran Paul Roulund Construction, which later became Roulund Construction Inc., dba United Builders of California. Roulund Construction has worked with such builders as Warmington homes, Lyon Homes, Jim Peters, Pacesetter and Covington brothers. Roulund Construction offered exterior woodwork, hardscape, fountains, concrete, and masonry. The company later expanded to offer turnkey contracts for model homes. While not busy with other homebuilders, Paul and his company built a custom 6,500 square foot house in the Santa Ynez valley, next door to Bo Derek’s house. UBC focused mostly with landscape contractors, building decks, patio covers, gazebos and outdoor cabanas. Paul is also an approved Gold Trex (wood composite) installer. He attends Trex seminars around the country every year. With the housing boom in the late nineties, came the opportunity to move indoors and bigger projects. UBC averages 40 loft conversions a year, along with major remodel projects, including an 1800 square foot addition in Capistrano Beach.
Paul has been married since 1991, and has two children. He enjoys sports with his children, Y-Guides, model airplane flying and traveling with his family.
UBC donates labor each year to build houses in Tecate, Mexico.
